Examinations and Diplomas

Not every student that registers with Maoin Cheoil ne Gaillimhe will wish to present for examination. This is at the discretion of the student, in consultation with the Teacher. For those who do wish to be examined, we offer the full spectrum of exams in each subject. The four main exam boards are catered for i.e. The Royal Irish Academy of Music, The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College of Music, and London College of Music. In addition to this, there is Fetac certification in certain subjects, where hitherto, no such qualification existed e.g. Popular Guitar or Keyboard or Adult Music Appreciation.

As with the grade exams, we also cater to the advanced student, wishing to obtain a professional qualification in his/her chosen subject. There are a range of Diploma types on offer, but in simplified terms there are two main streams, Teaching and Performing. Within each stream there are three levels of Diploma. The Associate level, the Licentiate, and the Fellowship. Each level is fully recognised here, and internationally. The level of Licentiate is sufficient to be a full recognised teacher within the VEC structure in this country. It is also possible to gain high levels of qualification within the Fetac framework.
