Colourstrings

Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe Colourstrings image 1 Colourstrings began life as a method of introducing young children to the joy of music though song, dance and game play. It was adapted from the methods of Zoltán Kodály, to form the basis for teaching the very young, a series of pieces, that would later form the building blocks of their instrumental training. All the skills of musicianship are incorporated into the system, without the child even realising that he/she is actively "learning". To them, it is just a fun activity, and this means it builds an association with music that is positive, which remains so, right throughout their training. It has long since grown beyond the original model, and now includes a wide range of instruments. But, even without their progression to learning an instrument, it remains the premier method of introducing young children to music in a way that relates music to fun rather than work.
