Summer Camps

The Irish summer camp program is really a way to bridge the large gap created by summer holidays that adds value to the learning throughout the year. We are not interested in recreating the standard lesson structure, rather to broaden the base of learning by integrating and infusing our summer programs with other disciplines and genres.

We offer a different range of classes each summer. Details of all classes are posted here with regular updates. For full information on each years program consult with the school in the early spring each year when new programs are announced.

Booking and payment for the courses will be done through the site.

String Orchestra Camps

Our String Orchestra camp is five days of fun filled activities that starts with a good vocal warm up using Kodaly based singing lessons to begin the learning of the music. The course is open to all string players with grade 3 or equivalent standard on their instrument.

The vocal analysis of the material is one of the nicest and most fun ways to dissect a piece of music and embed it in the mind. Then we have sectional rehearsals to learn to function within our own groups and full rehearsals to bring it all together. We are then also looking to understand the responses to the music, so we use visual arts.

We work professionals to help participants respond to the music in a way that maybe they cannot do with words.

All of the music is provided in advance so with helpful videos to begin the note learning. We do like to challenge participants and to also cover a good range of music throughout the week.

The course runs from the 17th to the 21st July in Shantalla NS. We will meet from 10am to 3pm each day. The cost for the full week is €120

Colourstrings Camps

Running from 17th to 21st July in Shantalla NS the return of our very popular course with the school each year, suitable for young children aged approx 4 to 6. We incorporate the Colourstrings lesson in a world of games and creativity and create a unique story that develops over the week leading to a ‘Performance’ on the final day.

We explore ideas such as singing, games, and crafting simple instruments that become a part of the musical journey.

Children also get small performances presented each day on a different musical instrument and a chance to get up close with that instrument to learn how it works and to learn some of the music that goes with that instrument. This is important in helping children to learn which type of instrument they feel a more natural gravity towards as their own learning progresses.

Classes run from 10am to 2.30 daily. The cost is €25 per day or there is a special price of €100 for the week
